Stigmatized Mistakes & Beliefs

The current education system is designed to build army of rooks, bishops and pawns where each of them has limited role and option to move on the chessboard. Our system and families define the goal of their children which is to chase the race. If any of them refuse to take part or run slower than others then our society treat them like a discarded product. I was lucky that my parents never forced me to run in 90%-95% marks race. I got decent scores &  participated in every possible sports, art competitions, quiz, camps, trekking etc, luckily got prizes whatever I did. I think we lived a better life than studious students. They must be earning few millions but at what cost?

Most of the schools have one session/class for sports and co-curricular activities which are mandatory for students but students are rated/evaluated on the basis of their academic records not sports/extra activities. The problem is we under-evaluates our kids and doesn’t spend time in nurturing the talent. Imagine, if we give them enough space and options they can change the world.

Few of the well renowned personalities like Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Dhirubhai Ambani etc. are role model for millions but do we know that all of the aforesaid personalities are either college or school drop outs. I am sure there journey was very tough and difficult for them to convince families or friends about their “i-m-possible” ideas.

A week ago, I was watching a video of 2 young school kids who have started their own company and they are the youngest CEO’s of the company. Now imagine, if their parents had demotivated them and told them to focus on their education. We could have lost 2 intelligent minds.

Few weeks ago, I saw a presentation by Sugat Mitra which he gave in TED conference. I was highly impressed with his research and the concept “Beyond the Hole in the Wall”. His book is an eye opener, he has challenged the current education system of India. How he has experimented with poor kids across the globe and find out the learning trend is same. It clearly shows that if we provide enough arms & ammunitions to even a poor kid, they can learn their own (without any guide). The power of self-organized learning is better than a forced learning.

Ken Robinson who is working in education industry feels that schools are killing creativity of the students. One of the important point he raised was kids who are in school are prepared for future but the fact is world is unpredictable and we don’t know what will be the scenario after 5 years. We are living in an era of “education inflation” which means 50 years ago a candidate with normal graduation degree used to get a job but now even a PHD holder won’t get it. The challenge is if we don’t encourage creativity of any kid at a younger age, it would impact them in future. The older you grow people are scared to be wrong.

One of the key messages from all these initiatives & research by different scholars or physicist is that we need to look things differently if we really want to add any value. Society will always oppose you whenever you come-up with an idea or if your thought process/believes are not in-line with their expectation. They will come-up with their silly reasons and every possible thing to become hurdle in your success or life. It is very tough to fight with them but if parents or system show the confidence and prepare them for the bigger challenges as well as failures. Ken Robinson said in one of the TED conference that “If you’re not prepared to be wrong, you’ll never come up with anything original.”

All creative and genius person are insane and passionate about their work. People should change their attitude and thought process towards them, most importantly stop stigmatizing mistakes and beliefs of others. Everyone has a talent to create a history, now it’s upto you whether you would like to be known for good or bad side. I think giving a shot to your idea or following your beliefs is a better choice than doing some non-interesting job.

We are not born to live and die. We all are born with a purpose and contribute to the society and humanity. Think about it……

I am missing you

I am sharing a poem which I wrote during my college days:

I am missing you, And I love you too
Days have passed, Since I saw you last
Times is passing by, Flowers seem to cry.

Moments spent while you were close to my heart
They are like the fresh fragrance of the flower rose
Look at the way, The flower grow everyday
Wish that even I was in the phase, with you my friend
Moving in an easy pace, Sorry, the almighty says
The time passes by, in its own way
It drops pearls, In everybody’s lives
And in mine, dear you my friend is the real pearl
And I am sure, you are mine
Wherever I be in my life, you will be always shine
Yes, my loving friend, I am missing you
And I love you too.

I am going no where…

We all occasionally want to write something to express our feelings, but we struggle to find the appropriate words, so we end up taking a different route. I outlined my thoughts on a related situation in writing.

Friendship is treasure of unspoken words & feelings
Few find their love in a friend
Few fear to find love in friend
Interestingly I am going no where…
Relationship is mix of emotions & fears
Few of us smiled & aspire together
Few of us cried & break down together
Interestingly I am going no where…

Career is race of success & failures
Few enjoyed the success in style
Few stuck in their failures
Interestingly I am going no where…

Life is bag of surprises & shocks,
Few cherished the moments,
Few missed the moments,
Interestingly I am going no where…

Love Actually

Love meaning changes with the life
Attraction at amateur stage,
Lust when you grow-up,
Companionship at mid of life,
Torrid relationship till you dies.

Love is an element of life
Fire of passion & desires,
Ocean of emotions & bonding,
Land of jealousy & protectiveness,
Sky of clowning & fun,
Air of love & care

Love is a feeling which can’t be expressed in words.

20 and in Love!!

My life took a sudden change,
Good things started happening again.

Your love bring smile on my face
Your support became my success ace.

I became tougher and stronger
Want to live life longer

Life with you is like a heaven
Life without you is like a lonely planet

You are sweet like a baby
You are beautiful like a fairy

It’s my turn to make you smile
Together we will achieve success miles

Your love & support sparked my life.
Wish you to make my wife.

Gratitude!!

Success is an addiction. One must keep themselves grounded and in the real world. My mother used to tell me as a child not to lose sight of those who will stand by you during trying times. I've never been able to figure out why she continues repeating the same story. I now understand what she meant because I am 27 years old and work for a corporation. True friends are those who have helped you through difficult times and will always provide you with honest comments. If there is anything that matters to your friends, it is "friendship," not whether you are a rock star or a struggling individual. All other people who stick by you until you achieve success are a part of this deceptive truth.

This blog is a tribute to all my family and friends who have supported me and had a significant impact on my life. Without them, there would be no point in life.

English Version of our National Anthem

It's always interesting to discover something new about our country, therefore I stumbled found the English translation of our national anthem.

Thou art the ruler of the mind of all people,

Dispenser of India’s destiny

Thy name rouses the hearts of Punjab, Sind, Gujarat, and Maratha.

Of Dravida and Orissa and Bengal,

It echoes in the hills of Vindhyas & Himalaya,

Mingles in the music of Jamuna and Ganges

And is chanted by the waves of the India sea

They prey for thy blessings and sing thy praise,

The saving of all people waits in thy hand,

Thou dispenser of India’s destiny

Victory, Victory, Victory to thee.

At the age of 11, I began writing articles and poetry. When I was 16 years old, I took part in a poetry competition where everyone had to compose a poem on the spot. The assignment was to compose a poem on our "name". Overall, it was a unique experience. Fortunately, my poetry received some attention.

Beijing Olympics 2008

I feel proud to be an Indian despite so much corruption, crime, and lack of proper infrastructure. However, every time the Olympics come around, I feel embarrassed because a nation with a population of a billion people struggles to win a medal. When Bindra recently earned a gold medal and two other athletes in their respective sports got bronze. The entire nation was ecstatic and filled with pride, and so am I.

I believe that we are still not concentrating on the main issue, or are we attempting to escape from it? Why do we consider 3 medals to be sufficient? Why don't we compare ourselves to nations like China, the United States, Russia, Australia, etc.? In just one Olympics, Michael Philips earned 8 gold medals. He is deserving of praise. Do we (Indians) want to send the idea that we are not as patriotic as those from other nations? I'm not saying this because we've only won three medals. The Indian team was the only one that did not wear a uniform at the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics in 2008; moreover, they were occupied snapping pictures or looking at their phones during the parade. Democracy does not permit us to disregard manners and present a poor reflection on our nation. The standard set for athletes should be raised, and the government should provide the necessary resources they need to train for and win such competitions. Athletes must contribute by following the rules and keeping the country ahead of them. I am optimistic that we will reach double digits in gold medals soon. All of the athletes who are competing for our nation on the international stage have my best wishes.

My First Blog

Hold on folks!! You'd be mistaken to assume that this is my first blog. I'm talking about my experience and how I got into blogging. I mistakenly believed that blogs were just for experts who wrote really complex material, such as technical documents or dry philosophical writings. I detest it, therefore I stopped wasting my time reading blogs. I moved to a role where social networking sites and blogs became my bread and butter. My situation was similar to that of a poor youngster who hates arithmetic but has no other alternative.

In our company, one of my seniors started posting his weekly blog, "Fursat Friday." Like a good software engineer, I deleted his email without reading his first blog. But his subsequent blog made me feel (like a typical HR man) that there must be something worthwhile for someone of his level to spend their time blogging. Therefore, the pattern persisted until "Fursat Friday 5".

Finally, I decided to write down my masterpiece and pull the innocuous legs of my elders.

Visit my debut blog at http://www.fursatfriday.com/2008/07/fursat-friday-7-tipping-point-3-amit.html to learn more.

However, I've turned into a dedicated blogger (boring and philosophical:-)) who doesn't require an excuse to write. I was inspired by Ravi, and I'm confident that someday, I'll inspire someone else.
